Supertron Infotech triumphed in Corporate Cricket League to bring home the Runner-Up trophy

When it comes to sports, cricket leads the way in India. The passion among every single individual for the game is evident here and the excitement has always been exceptional. The fact is so dead right for Supertron Infotech that you can go ahead and replace “India” with “Supertron Infotech”, and it will still define the essence to the best!

Corporate Cricket League 2015 (CCL) – a Supertron Infotech Private Limited initiative that allowed every executive to severe their loyalties with the assignments and deadlines for a day and unleash the true sportsman spirit and battle it out in the 22 yards, only to achieve the best possible result!  CCL promised some serious cricketing action with different corporate teams in fray!

Practice sessions per week had Supertronites geared up for the main event. They were ready and raring to go! 24th of January 2015 was the day when it was time for the ‘Men in Red’ to make their cricketing skills do the talking in the middle. Along with Superton, there were three other organizations in fray for the CCL trophy- Durable Securites Private Limted, Kavish Online Services and BNI Prudent, Kolkata.

With eight players in each of the team, in an eight-over per innings game, Supertonites took on Durable Securites Private Limted in their opening game – the second game of the tournament. (Kavish Online Services and BNI Prudent locked horns in the opening game with Kavish having the last laugh). With Supertronites arriving in numbers, decked in red-tees and red caps to cheer their heart out for the playing eight, there was immense pressure on the players; the pressure of bringing the trophy home! It was a battle of nerves upfront and everyone wanted the Supertron Captain to win the toss and bat first. The wish was fulfilled when Supertronites elected to bat first having won the crucial toss! Amid all the cheer and wishes, the opening batsman went to the middle and delighted everyone with some magnificent stroke-play. The two openers started middling the ball and sending it out of the field, right from the word go! It was raining sixes and fours in Maitrayi Sangha ground in Bashdroni! Even with the loss of a wicket, the explosive stroke-making did not cease and it continued till the last delivery with Supertron concluding their inning with a massive six over square leg. Supertron had an impressive total on board- 123 runs out of 8 overs! With a plenty to defend, Supertronites bowled at decent line and length to restrict team Durable Securites to 100 runs. It was the maiden victory and a beautiful one, indeed.

In the first game, Kavish Online Services had demolished BNI Prudent with fearsome batting display and destructive bowling. Supertronites could contemplate the huge challenge that lied ahead, because it was time for Supertron Infotech to take on against Kavish Online. Supertronites won the toss and had to bat first. Some beautiful bowling, molded with swing and pace restricted Supertronites to 88 runs in 8 overs. Brilliant strokeplay by Kavish batsmen made 11 per over run rate a dwarf target as they scored the winning runs with two overs to spare and with 5 wickets in hand.

The tournament turned interesting when Durable Securites beat BNI Prudent in their second game. This meant, BNI was knocked out of the competition, having lost two out of two and Durable Securities kept their chances alive, sharing equal points with Supertron Infotech. While Kavish Online was through to the finals, it came down to Net Run Rate (NRR) evaluation between Durable Securities and Supertron Infotech and the team with the better NRR would play Kavish in the finals.

The drama was anything but over. As each team eagerly waited for the NRR evaluation, there were few anxious faces in the crowd. Destiny, however, had something else in store and to add to the anxiety, NRR could not decide the finalist as they both were tied in NRR as well! So, it was time for a Super-Over.

Supertronites had the experience of playing the Super-Over, courtesy, the tie against Institute of International Trade in ATPL 2013. Although the result in ATPL 2013 did not go in Supertron’s favor, the desperation to make it big in CCL was evident. Being knocked out of ATPL in Super-Over in 2013, being beaten in the previous game by Kavish and the sheer desperation to make it to the finals made Supertron set the ground ablaze when they went to the middle to bat, having won the toss! Every delivery was disappearing out of the park, literally. Supertron set the target of 21 in one over for Durable Securities. The fate of the match was decided within the first three deliveries itself as Durable Security batsmen could only score two runs and 20 runs in three balls was an impossible target. At the end of Super-Over, Durable Securities could score only 11 runs, thus losing by 11 runs. Supertron Infotech was in the finals!

Kavish Online Services versus Supertron Infotech – The Finals
Having won the toss Supertron Captain had put Kavish into bat. Probably, three back-to-back games had taken a toll on team Supertron already as Kavish batters were smashing Supertron bowlers all over the park for fours and sixes! The tiring arm refrained to pitch it up and Kavish batters were happily pulling the short balls out of the ground, incessantly. At the end of 8 overs, Kavish put on a huge total of 165 runs on board. Having known that the target was not a trivial one, Supertron sent two of its hard-hitters in the middle. Braving the injuries and hamstring cramps, Supertron did get some odd boundaries but they were certainly not enough to achieve the mammoth target. Kavish lifted the CCL trophy and Supertron was the Runner-Up.

A tournament that had immense expectation from Supertron had finally concluded. And needless to state, Supertron family was more than happy with the kind of effort their players had put in. Every single person could fathom the value of winning the first game by 23 runs and then making it to the finals in a Super-Over and everyone, including the CEO, Mr. Sanjay Chaudhary congratulated the team for their effort. The glorious CCL concluded with the prize distribution ceremony and some wise words from the mentors quoting Wilma Rudolph, “Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday.”
